Frequently asked questions

If my tree has a tree preservation order how do I go about contacting the council?

You do not need to do anything. Treecare will find out whether your tree has a TPO or if the tree is within a conservation area. If either of these is the case, we will contact your local council on your behalf and submit all relevant forms. This will mean a waiting period of up to ten weeks while the application is dealt with. Treecare will even arrange an on-site meeting with your local tree officer to resolve any difficulties. All of this is carried out with no extra charge: it is just part of the service we provide.

When is the best time to prune my tree?

This depends on the amount of pruning taking place. If there is a large amount of foliage being removed it is best done when the tree is dormant (between November and March). If, however, the tree is for example a cherry and so is prone to diseases like silver leaf it is best pruned in high summer when gum deposits help reduce infection.

My tree has been looking unwell for a long time now. Should I have it cut back?

Generally it is detrimental to prune a stressed tree as it needs all the energy gaining potential (leaves) it can get. However, contact Treecare at the earliest opportunity and we will inspect the tree and offer advice at no charge.
